Integars

Integars:  Here we look at basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division sums.

Surds

Laws and examples:  First we discuss the basic laws.  You must be able to do sums in which you apply these laws.  Then we look at the method of simplifying a surd of a big number using prime factorisation.

Fractions

Normal fractions and Decimal fractions:  We look at each kind of fraction and how to convert between them.

Algebra

Algebraic expressions:  This is a theory section and extremely important.  You must be able to answer questions regarding the constant term, the degree of the expression, how many terms the expression has and be able to write the expression in increasing or decreasing powers.

Simplification:  The most important section of grade 8 maths.  Mixture of applying algebra laws, surds and integers.  Here we look at the different rules and I do a few example sums.

Substitution: Examples on how to answer a substitution sum.

Number patterns

Find a formula:  Finding the formula for a linear number pattern

Equations

Find the unknown:  We do step by step explanation of how to solve the unknown.  We also look at two kinds of equations that have special kind of answers.

Financial Maths

Simple Interest:  We explain the simple interest formula and do an example of how to use it.

Hire purchase:  This is a specific kind of simple interest.  We explain how to do a hire purchase sum in detail.

Vat and percentage increase:  There are always the odd questions in financial maths.  We do a few examples using formulas which can help you.

Exchange rate:  A few example sums are done

Geometry

Angles:  There is a lot of theory you have to know really well.  We run through it all.

Theorem of Pythagoras:  This is a very important section of grade 9 geometry.  We explain the Theorem of Pythagoras and do examples.

Area and Perimeter:  You must know your formulas!  But it helps to understand where they come from. Here we sum all the formulas up by looking at each shape.

Volume and TSA:  You must know your formulas!  But it helps to understand where they come from. Here we sum all the formulas up by looking at each shape.

Probability

Probability: This is a small chapter in grade.  We discuss the tree diagram.

Statistics

Statistics:  We explain how to find the following from a data set:  minimum, maximum, mean, mode.

Graphs

Graphs:  In grade 8 you only do a introduction to graphs.  We explain the following:  The system of axes, and how to plot a coordinate point on the system of axes.

Revision

Paper 1:  A full paper 1.  Make sure you can do this paper in the given time.  If not, identify the sections you are still not comfortable with, watch the video again and go do more exercises from a textbook like the X Factor or the Pythagoras.
